Institution Overview

Founded in 1887 by Francis Ormond, RMIT University began as a night school dedicated to art, science, and technology, emerging in response to Australia’s Industrial Revolution. For over a century, it operated as a private college until 1992, when it merged with the Phillip Institute of Technology and gained public university status.

Today, RMIT is home to over 97,000 students from more than 230 countries, making it one of the most diverse educational institutions in Australia.

In 2020 alone, more than 2,000 scholarships were awarded to RMIT students. Since 2015, the university has invested over $1.8 million in funding more than 80 student-led startups, reflecting its strong support for innovation and entrepreneurship.

RMIT ranks 4th in Australia for graduate employability and communication & media studies. It operates three campuses across Australia and has an international branch in Vietnam, demonstrating its global reach and commitment to quality education.
