Pisa University

Institution Overview

The University of Pisa was officially founded in 1343, although scholars believe its origins date back to the 11th century. By the mid-12th century, Pisa had become home to the first true “Universita,” a community where masters and students gathered. The University of Pisa is one of Italy’s most renowned educational institutions, consisting of 20 departments and advanced research centers in agriculture, physics, computer science, engineering, medicine, and veterinary science. Among its alumni are many famous scholars, poets, and Nobel laureates.
